SC LLR Licensing Lookup

Don't hire a home inspector or any contractor to perform work at your home without checking for their state licensing! Note: The requirements in NC and SC differ greatly: in South Carolina, no work of $200 or more may be done in a home in the required specialties without proper state licensing.

The good news is that SC makes it very easy to verify licensing:

1. Go to SC Dept of Labor, Licensing & Registration Licensee Look Up page
2. At the dropdown box for governing board, select RESIDENTIAL BUILDERS
3. Search by Last Name, Business Name, License #, City or License Type. Type your entry in and then type the verification characters in the box at bottom. [Ex, you can type Palubiak in the Last Name field, and either select the Home Inspector License button to verify that, or leave that field blank to bring up all licenses -- which will show both his Inspection License, as well as Roofing / Specialty Contractors licenses.]
4. Select the license you want to check and you can verify whether the license is active or not, whether a bond if on file, and how long the license has been issued.

Note about Bonds: Licenses expire in June and LLR wipes out all bond listings in May so they can begin entering the new bonds in as they are received with license renewals. If you are searching in May/June and it shows No Bond On File, you can call LLR to verify if there is actually a bond --which is valid thru end of June.
