What do you need to know and do to maintain the value of your home?

If you're owned a home before, then it's no surprise to you that there is a seemingly never ending list of things that need doing. Here are a couple things you can do to make sure you are taking good care of the home you love, and protecting your most important investment too!

• An easy way to keep up with the regular maintenance items is with a Home Maintenance Checklist.
• Have regular Maintenance Inspections. We normally recommend these every 1 - 3 years, depending on the general condition of your home and how 'handy' you (or someone in your home) are. If you are not in the crawlspace, checking the roof and gutters, looking around the corners of the basement and attic, then an annual or bi-annual inspection is appropriate. Otherwise, 2-3 years is usually fine. Remember -- a leak or other small issue now, -- if not spotted and repaired, -- can be a huge mess requiring many thousands of dollars to repair, later. As we like to say "an ounce of inspection is worth a pound of cure".
